Get your flu shot to protect your family from illness

Influenza (the flu) is a highly contagious respiratory disease that spreads easily through coughs and sneezes. It poses serious risks, including fever, headache, and muscle pain lasting up to 3 weeks.

Each year, it prompts many to miss work and can lead to hospitalisation from complications like pneumonia. Renewing the flu vaccine annually is crucial for maximum protection, as virus strains vary seasonally.

Schedule your flu vaccine at Daintree Health to safeguard yourself and your family from potential illnesses.

Who is eligible for a free flu vaccine?

Under the National Immunisation Program, free flu vaccines are provided to the following groups who are at higher risk of complications from flu:

  • children aged 6 months to less than 5 years
  • all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
  • people aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions that increase their chance of severe influenza and its complications
  • pregnant women (at any stage during pregnancy)
  • people aged 65 years and over.

Pneumococcal vaccine

Pneumococcal immunisation is also recommended for people aged 70 years and over, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over and those with a serious medical risk condition.
